In a significant crackdown aligned with the Government of India's vision of a Drug-Free India (Nasha Mukt Bharat), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled a major drug syndicate operating out of Hooghly, West Bengal. The operation, carried out by the Kolkata Zonal Unit, culminated in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of 118 kilograms of ganja.

The key perpetrators were identified as a father-son duo residing in the Haripal area, who played a central role in the drug trafficking network. The duo was arrested on March 26, 2025, after sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Further investigations revealed the involvement of two additional individuals who were impersonating NCB officers. These impersonators were allegedly collecting protection money in exchange for shielding drug traffickers. Notably, one of them had a prior association with the NCB as a contract-based contingent staff member over a decade ago.

NCB officials later apprehended one of the impersonators from a running train in Bihar, underscoring the agency's determined pursuit of those aiding the drug trade.

The agency is continuing its probe into the origins of the seized contraband to trace the full supply chain. The NCB urges citizens to support the fight against drug trafficking by reporting suspicious activities via the National Narcotics Helpline—MANAS—at the toll-free number 1933.
