T&T’S HEALTH MINISTER SAYS ONLY NEXT OF KIN CAN CLAIM COVID VICTIMS BODIES

By a staff reporter:
T&T’S Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh on Tuesday made it clear that covid 19 bodies being kept back in storage, particularly those in the SWRHA, is no one’s fault, neither the authorities, nor the families.
Rather he explained that, based on investigations over reports of the bodies being held back, the next of kin, in many cases is responsible for collection and most times these individuals are under quarantine… as a result he said for legal reasons other family members are not allowed to claim the bodies, resulting in the wait.
Responding to Opposition Senator Wade Mark on the issue, Minister Deyalsingh said the average wait therefore except in these cases would be between 1- 5 days
Minister Deyalsingh said while he was aware of the additional costs and charges to the victim’s families, the various RHA’s do not charge for holding. He also assured that his Ministry is actively involved in the administrative process as well
