BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent statement, Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan on Tuesday criticized the newly implemented Citizenship Amendment Act and remarked that it is the first law based on religious discrimination.

ST Hasan stated  "Parties were demanding to properly interrogate the migrants who faced persecution in their homelands, if their conduct is ethical, grant them Citizenship. However, they excluded Muslims from the Act as they are a majority in certain countries, hence, they do not face persecution." He further argued that Dalits are in majority in India yet they face persecution. Hasan asserted that CAA is the first law in India that discriminates on the basis of religion.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the rules of the Citizenship Amendment Act (2019). Furthermore, the newly implemented CAA will be called the 'Citizenship Amendment Act (Rules) 2024'. The Act aims to grant Indian Citizenship to the refugees and migrants belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, Jain, and Christian communities who arrived in India before 31st December 2014 and faced persecution in their homelands.
