DOCTOR STRANGE 2 CONJURES UP LARGEST OPENING WEEKEND OF 2022

Film is second behind Spider-Man ,The largest opening after Pandemic. The summer movie season is off to a blockbuster start thanks to DOCTOR STRANGE in the Multiverse of Madness. The superhero extravaganza grossed an estimated $185 million US in ticket sales in its first weekend in U.S. and Canadian theatres, the Walt Disney Co. said Sunday. 

The $450M score is the 2nd biggest global start for a Hollywood movie during the pandemic era, and the fourth ever for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) behind Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home. In like-for-likes, it ranks as the No. 6 all-time global MPAA (motion pictures association of America)opener. Doctor Strange 2 further set a new IMAX box office record for May with $33M worldwide (the 5th best worldwide debut for Marvel in the format).
Internationally, it's doing even better with an estimated $265 million US since opening Wednesday. In total, Doctor Strange 2 has already made $450 million US.
