New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj has taken a sharp dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the central government of weakening democratic governance in Delhi by strengthening bureaucratic control over the past decade. Speaking on the ongoing governance challenges, Bhardwaj claimed that BJP is now facing the same bureaucratic hurdles it had previously dismissed when AAP raised concerns.

"For the last 10 years, the BJP-led central government has been instructing Delhi’s bureaucracy to ignore elected MLAs. As a result, the bureaucracy has become accustomed to this approach. BJP turned Delhi from a democracy into a bureaucracy for political reasons," Bhardwaj stated.

He further alleged that bureaucrats, who had been encouraged to bypass the Delhi government’s directives for years, are now doing the same to BJP leaders. "Now that BJP has formed the government, their own officers are not picking up their calls. When AAP and the Delhi government pointed out these issues, BJP mocked us. Today, they are facing the consequences of their own actions," he added.

Bhardwaj emphasized that the strength of democracy lies in ensuring that bureaucracy remains subordinate to elected representatives. "I am happy that BJP has finally learned this lesson after coming to power," he remarked.
