Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha has called on the Central government to ensure the approval of the OBC Reservation Bill passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly, which seeks to increase reservation for backward classes to 42%.
Speaking on the issue, Kavitha stated, “The Telangana Legislative Assembly passed a bill to increase the reservation for backward classes to 42 percent. We are demanding that the BJP inform the Governor and get the Bill passed. Then, the President will approve it, and after that, it will be implemented in the state.”
The demand puts pressure on the BJP-led central government to act on the bill, which requires Governor’s approval before being sent to the President. The proposal comes amid ongoing debates over caste-based reservations and social justice policies.
The BRS government, led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, has been pushing for greater representation of backward communities, while the BJP’s stance on the matter remains unclear. The approval of this bill would significantly impact educational and job opportunities for OBCs in Telangana.
