New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the purchase of 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) ‘Prachand’ from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for over ₹62,500 crore. The move is expected to significantly enhance India’s defense capabilities and self-reliance in military technology.

Highlighting the advanced features of ‘Prachand’, Singh described it as a powerful machine capable of operating in high-altitude terrains and executing precision strikes on elevated targets. “This decision marks a major boost to India’s combat capabilities and self-reliance in defense,” he stated.

The helicopter deal is also expected to generate over 8,500 jobs, strengthening India’s indigenous defense industry and aligning with the Make in India initiative. Singh expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for the approval, calling it a proud moment for India’s defense sector.
