BY Avijit Nandi Majumdar: The Russian made Mi-17V5 in which Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 army personnel were traveling, is one of the most advanced and sophisticated helicopters in the world. The helicopter hit a tree and crashed in Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu. Speaking exclusively to ANM News, one of the senior most army pilots who has done numerous high risk sorties in the Siachen and Jammu and Kashmir before retiring from the services, Brig Ashwani Kumar mentioned that the flying machine is state of art, has more power and auto flying control. The helicopter is usually subjected to ``minor servicing and every components checked and rechecked before VVIP flight departures.'' The big question arises as to how such a state of art advanced helicopter catches fire? Can there be a technical malfunction? or is it due to the weather? ``Even the most advanced helicopter can malfunction,'' Kumar said. ``Or it can be the weather,'' he added.
