Delhi sent letter to Haryana over pollution of Yamuna



By A Staff Reporter : The Delhi Water Board wrote a letter to the Haryana government, observing that increasing levels of pollution in the Yamuna River have hampered production at Delhi's water treatment plants.The letter urged Haryana to immediately "stop pollution" and increase water supply to the national capital. In a letter to the Haryana Irrigation Department, the Delhi Water Board said rising level of ammonia levels in the Yamuna River reduced production at two water treatment plants at Chandrawal and Wazirabad.Rising ammonia levels in the river have reduced production at two water treatment plants at Chandrawal and Wazirabad. This has led to water crisis in some areas of the national capital.Haryana carries water to Delhi through Carrier-Lined Channel (CLC), Delhi Sub-Branch (DSB) and Jamuna River.CLC and DSB supply water from Hathni Kund through Munak Canal and Bhakra Beas Management Board. Haryana has been requested to reduce pollution and increase water supply. According to the board, ammonia levels in Delhi's Wazirabad pond exceeded the curable level of 0.9 ppm (parts per million) and reached 8.5 ppm on Saturday.
