There’s no conflict in Principal Medical Officer Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards’ appointment to the Board of Angostura Holdings Limited . This, according to Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh who said the appointment to serve on the board has broken no rules.
The Minister was questioned at today’s virtual COVID-19 briefing on how the appointment was allowed given her role heading the management of the parallel healthcare system set up to treat with COVID-19 care.
On Sunday, Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh asked if Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards' appointment to the board of Angostura compromises her position as Principal Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health.
He questioned why Dr Abdool-Richards was allowed on the board, having already been appointed to the board of the National Insurance Property Development Company Ltd in 2020 and serving as a director of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. He said according to the Civil Service Regulations 137, Dr Abdool-Richards is a public servant and is bound by these regulations.
