RANCHI: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday raised concerns over the potential reduction of seats reserved for tribals in the state during a recent delimitation meeting held in Chennai.

Addressing the issue, Soren stated, “This attempt was made earlier as well. There were efforts to reduce the number of seats reserved for tribals in the state, which led to significant uproar and protests. Why should tribal seats be reduced? The discussions from the meeting will be reviewed, and we will provide detailed information afterward.”

The issue of delimitation has been a sensitive topic in Jharkhand, where tribal representation in legislative bodies holds historical and constitutional significance. Past attempts to alter reserved seat allocations have sparked protests from tribal communities and political leaders.

Soren’s remarks come amid growing apprehensions regarding the impact of delimitation on the political landscape of Jharkhand. The state government is expected to closely examine the meeting's outcomes before taking a formal stance on the matter.
