New Delhi | The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, held a key meeting on Tuesday, focusing on India’s relations with Bangladesh and issues concerning the Indian diaspora.
Speaking after the meeting, Tharoor stated, “The bulk of the meeting was devoted to our discussion with the Foreign Secretary on India's relations with Bangladesh. I am not at liberty to disclose details, but it was a very comprehensive discussion where all aspects were seriously considered. Many members had questions, and the outcome will be reflected in the committee’s report to Parliament.”
The second part of the meeting addressed the Indian diaspora, with the committee finalizing a report based on prior consultations. “That report has just been adopted, and you will see it very soon,” Tharoor confirmed.
The discussions come at a crucial time as India navigates its diplomatic engagements with Bangladesh, a key regional partner. The report on the Indian diaspora is expected to provide insights into policies affecting overseas Indians and their contributions to India's global outreach.
