The Chinese community is keen to restart India's only Mandarin newspaper Seong Pow from Tangra in Kolkata. The Chinese consulate has come out in whole hearted support with top diplomats including the consul general Zha Liyou visiting the refurbished office in Fortune Empire building office in Tangra. The newspaper started in Kolkata in 1969 and production went on till March 2020. The four page daily newspaper printed around 200 copies everyday.  Yin Wah Chu, a Chinese community elder and brain behind restarting of the newspaper said that they intend to start production within the next one month. ``There are about three employees and the team is headed by Ms Young,'' he added. Consul General Zha Liyou added that the Chinese community in Kolkata is dwindling with most of the young generation migrating to Canada, USA and other western countries. ``There is a dearth of writers in the Chinese language. We appeal to those who can speak and write in Chinese to contact the promoters of the newspaper. The newspaper will mainly report on affairs of the community in Kolkata,'' Zha Liyou said.
