New Delhi: As the Chhath festival approaches, Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav visited the Chhath Ghat at ITO to inspect the government's preparations for the occasion. During his visit, he expressed deep concern about the state of the Yamuna River, describing it as a “polluted drain” and highlighting the scattered garbage in the surrounding areas. “It is saddening to see that the Yamuna River has become a polluted drain, and garbage is scattered all over the surrounding areas,” Yadav remarked.
He emphasized the government's responsibility to ensure that these sacred sites are kept clean and pollution-free, particularly during important festivals like Chhath. “It is the government's responsibility to keep these places clean and pollution-free,” he stated, criticizing both the central government led by the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for their apparent insensitivity towards the issues affecting Delhi residents.
Yadav's remarks underscore the ongoing struggle with pollution in the capital, particularly concerning the Yamuna River, which plays a vital role in the Chhath celebrations for many families. His visit and statements reflect a growing frustration among citizens regarding the lack of effective environmental management and government accountability. As the festival draws near, Yadav called for immediate action to improve conditions for the devotees and restore the sanctity of the river.
