New Delhi, April 5 — Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge paid rich tributes to former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram, popularly known as Babuji, on his birth anniversary today, remembering him as a towering statesman who devoted his life to the upliftment of the backward and most disadvantaged communities in India.
Speaking at a commemorative event in the capital, Kharge described Babuji as a “great leader of our country and especially of the Congress party,” noting his decades-long association with the party and his unwavering commitment to social justice.

“He spent his entire life in this party and dedicated everything for the backward and most backward people. The work he did as Defence Minister and his huge role in the Bangladesh war is a matter of pride for the country,” Kharge said, referring to Jagjivan Ram’s leadership during the 1971 Indo-Pak war that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
Kharge urged people, especially the youth, to take inspiration from Babuji’s legacy of service, sacrifice, and dedication to democratic ideals.
