Aliah University students held city to ransom

BY A STAFF REPORTER : A handful of slogan shouting students of Aliah University held the city on ransom as they blocked important streets and shouted slogans protesting against the alleged killing of Anish Khan.  The students went on a rampage in Park Circus and central Kolkata, despite state director general of police Manoj Malviya mentioning that police have taken action against officials and are close to a breakthrough. ``We have formed a SIT and will submit a report within two weeks,'' he said.  The Aliah University students however had other ideas. Locals suggested that they were bent on stoking trouble. They shouted slogans and sat down on the streets. But why? What were their demands? No one had an answer. Police walked alongside to ensure there was no violence. Traffic stood bumper to bumper and citizens were inconvenienced.
