New Delhi: Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai met Union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh in Delhi to discuss ongoing concerns regarding fishermen’s safety and livelihood. Following the meeting, Annamalai reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing cross-border fishing disputes.
“Since 2014, incidents of firing in the high seas have significantly reduced. It is PM Modi’s government that has been at the forefront of uplifting the livelihood of our fishermen,” Annamalai stated. He acknowledged that fishing-related disputes involve technical cross-country issues but assured that the government is actively working towards a resolution.
Describing the discussions as “very productive,” Annamalai expressed confidence that a viable solution would soon be reached. The meeting was part of continued efforts to safeguard Indian fishermen, particularly those from Tamil Nadu, who often face challenges in international waters.
The BJP leader also emphasized that the government has taken multiple initiatives to support fishermen, including better safety measures, financial assistance, and diplomatic engagement with neighboring countries to prevent conflicts.
