New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has supported External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s recent remarks in Parliament regarding the condition of minorities in Pakistan, stating that the issue is of national concern beyond party politics.
“I mean, it’s obvious that when there is a question in Parliament, he is obliged to reply. I would not see this as an escalation or anything like that, but it’s a very clear signal that we’re concerned about the well-being of minorities in Pakistan, which is actually not a political issue. All parties share these concerns,” Tharoor stated.
He acknowledged that Jaishankar’s response was measured and aligned with India’s longstanding position, particularly in forums like the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). “The minister’s answer was very careful to stress that India raised these concerns internationally… I think the minister’s statement was completely factual, and we all have to listen and take notes that there is a very disturbing situation in our neighboring country,” he added.
