A smuggler was arrested with 4 kgs of ganja in a special operation by conducted by the BSF troops on Tuesday midnight in the border area of District- North 24 Pargana of West Bengal. He was identified as Ashit Mandal, age- 27 years, Village- Chauragachi, Police Station- Bangaon, District- North 24 Parganas.
In the statement released by BSF, it was told that on Tuesday evening, the Intelligence Branch of BSF received information about smuggling of Ganja from the area of Border Out Post Ramchandrapur. On the basis of which troops of the Border Out Post Ramchandrapur laid a special ambush in suspicious area. At about 0130 hrs, the ambush party saw a suspicious person with suspecious bag in a jute field near the border road. As soon as he came near ambush party, troops cordoned him and apprehnded.
After apprehension, he was brought to Border Out Post Ramchandrapur for further investigation, where he revealed that he is involved in smuggling of Ganja for a long time and gets Rs.300/- every time. He further revealed that today he has taken this assignment from Sarojit Mandal, a resident of village- Bhira, and was to hand over to Alam Mandal, a resident of village- Giba of Bangladesh.
Shri Sushil Kumar, Commanding Officer of 107 Battalion BSF, said that BSF is taking strict step to prevent smuggling of Narcotics along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Due to which smugglers involved in such crimes are facing a lot of trouble. Some of them are being caught and they are also being punished according to the law.
