Hyderabad, Telangana: BJP leader NV Subhash on Sunday criticized the Telangana government over its reported allocation of ₹70 crore for the Iftar party scheduled for March 25. He questioned the expenditure, particularly in light of the state government’s earlier remarks about financial constraints.
“The Chief Minister recently stated at a conclave that the state is struggling to cope with its finances. Today, we learn that ₹70 crore has been allotted for an Iftar party. Several people, including Muslims, are asking why such a large amount is being spent when the state claims to be in a financial crisis,” Subhash said.
He argued that these funds could have been utilized for more pressing public welfare initiatives instead of what he termed an “appeasement” move.
“The BJP has been consistently demanding transparency from both the previous government and the current Congress government. The public has the right to know on what basis taxpayer money is being spent and whether it is being used for the welfare of all sections of society,” he added.
The Telangana government has yet to respond to the criticism. The allocation for Iftar celebrations has sparked a debate over fiscal priorities and the balance between cultural events and essential state expenditures.
