Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reaffirmed his party’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of Muslims while taking a sharp dig at the opposition AIADMK over its stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Speaking at an event, Stalin recalled the contributions of former CM Karunanidhi and emphasized the DMK government’s continued support for the Muslim community.
"The DMK government, under former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late Karunanidhi, announced a government holiday for Milad Un-Nabi, and it remains in force till today. Like our leader Karunanidhi, who had a very good relationship with Muslims and introduced several schemes for them, we, the Dravidian model government, are following the same path," Stalin said.
He accused AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) of hypocrisy, stating that while he participates in Iftar gatherings and Muslim events, his party had supported the CAA in Parliament.
"When CAA was introduced in Parliament, which is against Muslims, we DMK voted against it, but AIADMK MPs supported it. EPS is attending Iftar programs and other Muslim organizations' events, but he has betrayed the Muslims of the state," Stalin alleged.
The Chief Minister assured that the DMK will always stand against laws and policies that harm the rights of the Muslim community. His remarks come as political parties in Tamil Nadu intensify their outreach efforts ahead of upcoming elections.
