New Delhi: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in the national capital. Following the meeting, Shivakumar stated that it was a courtesy visit, during which he extended an invitation to Kharge for an upcoming party event in Karnataka.
Speaking to the media, Shivakumar said, "It was a courtesy meeting. We are building 100 Congress offices in Karnataka at the state and district levels. Since this coincides with the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi taking over as Congress President, we are dedicating these offices to his memory. I have invited Kharge ji to lay the foundation stone."
The move comes as part of the Congress’ efforts to strengthen its organizational presence in Karnataka, where the party is in power. The establishment of new offices is expected to provide a structural boost to the party’s grassroots operations ahead of the upcoming elections.
Shivakumar's visit to Delhi also assumes political significance, as it comes amid internal discussions on the Congress' future strategy both in Karnataka and at the national level. Sources indicate that apart from party expansion plans, broader political issues may have been discussed during his meeting with the leadership.
