In a significant step towards bolstering India's indigenous defense capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced the commencement of the metal cutting process for the Advanced Armoured Platforms (AAP)—both Wheeled and Tracked variants. The event took place at the Pune facilities of Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Bharat Forge Ltd.
The metal cutting ceremony, a crucial milestone in the development of any defense vehicle, was conducted by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO. The AAP, classified as a state-of-the-art infantry combat vehicle system, is scheduled for rollout in October 2025.
DRDO highlighted the synergy between the defense establishment and industry partners, emphasizing the reduced development time achieved through collaboration. The AAP project is expected to enhance India’s self-reliance in military technology while strengthening mechanized forces with advanced mobility, protection, and firepower capabilities.
