New Delhi | Union Minister and Republican Party of India (Athawale) President Ramdas Athawale on Thursday defended the Waqf Amendment Bill, rejecting opposition claims that it targets the Muslim community.

"I think the opposition tries to create confusion, and this bill is not an attack on Muslims," Athawale said. He highlighted that the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha with 288 votes, demonstrating strong parliamentary support.

The bill is set to be presented in the Rajya Sabha today, where Athawale confirmed he would also be speaking in its favor. "My party fully supports the bill... It will be passed in the Rajya Sabha," he asserted, expressing confidence in its approval.

Calling it a "revolutionary step" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Athawale thanked the government, emphasizing that the bill aims to improve governance and empower the Muslim community rather than marginalize it.
