Mumbai | Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi on Friday strongly opposed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, accusing the government of attempting to seize Waqf properties under the guise of reform.
"Those who have not done a single thing in favor of Muslims after forming the government... they are looking for temples beneath mosques... such people can never bring any bill that actually benefits Muslims," Azmi said.
The bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha and is set to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha, has sparked sharp criticism from opposition parties and Muslim leaders, who claim it is aimed at weakening Waqf institutions.
Azmi alleged that the ruling party's real intent is to "grab the land" rather than ensure transparency in Waqf management. “They have the majority to push it through the Rajya Sabha as well, but we will continue protesting against it,” he asserted.
