NEWBORN BABIES CONTRACTING COVID-19 IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

By a Staff Reporter: Four newborn babies have been confirmed covid-19 positive and according to Trinidad and Tobago’s Director of Women's Health Dr Adesh Sirjusingh who said that the virus was passed from mother to child and is largely affecting the unvaccinated.
At Monday’s Ministry of Health media briefing Dr Sirjusingh explained that at the labour ward, babies are swabbed at birth. Of the 4 newborns, he said one was a still-born which may have been the result of covid-19 complications.
Dr Sirjusingh then called on the population to build a barrier around pregnant women by getting vaccinated as there has been a total of 7 maternal deaths due to covid-19 and 150 cases in pregnant women in November alone.
This he said has proven to be an issue in the UK as well.
