COVID-19 COLD STORGAGE FACILITY IN FREEPORT, TRINIDAD SCRAPPED

By a Staff Reporter:  With the covid-19 cold storage facility in Freeport having been scrapped, residents issued an official statement thanking citizens and the media for the support given on this issue.

They also thanked MP for Couva South Rudranath Indarsingh, for his swift action and expressed gratitude for the mature decision adopted by the Funeral Association and its President Keith Belgrove.

During an online press conference on Monday, Mr Belgrove said that he in no way intended to upset the residents.

Residents backed by MP Indarsingh were upset over lack of consultation as well as respect and as such, a legal letter to the Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram was sent requesting full disclosure on the proposed establishment of the mass storage facility.

He made it clear that the project has also been a private one by the association and explained that the families of covid-19 victims are quarantined and cannot collect bodies and make funeral arrangements which is creating the pile up of bodies.
