51 out of Trinidad and Tobago’s 52 ICU beds were occupied up until earlier on Wednesday with some 7 persons awaiting treatment in ICU, currently warded temporarily at the various A&E departments…. A grim picture once again painted by Principal Medical Officer in charge of Institutions, Dr Maryam Abdool Richards, as she again pleaded with citizens to become vaccinated against the covid 19 virus…Dr Abdool-Richards said the matter is of “grave concern” however, efforts have been underway to increase the number of beds for ICU care, particularly since the arrival of the more highly transmissible Delta COVID-19 variant.
Referring to the 24 patients awaiting bed space, and ICU treatment, Dr Richards noted that many who present themselves are severely ill, to the point where they are unstable and cannot be moved.
