Lawless Bangladesh: Professor Yunus fails to make a mark as looting violence continues

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Bangladesh continues to be on the boil as Professor Mohammed Yunus has failed to restore law and order in the beleaguered country. According to reports pouring in from different parts of Bangladesh and also from Mirpur, Uttara in Dhaka, armed groups of miscreants are moving around on the streets storming houses and looting people. 

There are no signs of the police in rural Bangladesh and radical Islamist groups continue to target religious minorities and Hindus. Most of the banks and shops have kept their shutters down for fear of being looted as Professor Yunus' government struggled to maintain semblance of order.

Bangladeshi intellectuals told ANM News that Professor Yunus's government has to act quickly as the situation is out of hand. ``The new government has to address the law and order situation. That should be top priority now,'' an intellectual said.
