Panaji: Amid debates over the National Education Policy (NEP), Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant defended the initiative, emphasizing its role in strengthening regional languages.

Speaking on the issue, Sawant stated, “The NEP that has been brought by PM Modi after 40 years is for the promotion of regional languages. In a small state like Goa, we are promoting Konkani. It was never said to not promote regional languages.”

Sawant urged proper implementation of the policy, highlighting its long-term vision. “We should implement the NEP properly; it is a policy to lay the foundation for Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he added.

The NEP, introduced in 2020, aims to revamp India’s education system with a focus on multilingual learning, skill development, and flexibility in curriculum. While some opposition voices have raised concerns over language priorities, the Goa CM reaffirmed that the policy encourages linguistic diversity rather than sidelining regional tongues.
