BY A STAFF REPORTER: A business plane from Las Vegas to Southern California crashed into a field near the airport, killing six people, authorities said. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. in Murrieta, Riverside County.
Based on preliminary information, the Cessna C550 business jet took off from Las Vegas' Harry Reed International Airport and crashed near French Valley Airport during the second approach.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that deputies responded to the crash by finding a plane that caught fire in a field.
The sheriff's office said all six people on board were pronounced dead at the scene. By 5:35 a.m. local time, about an acre of vegetation had been burned, fire officials said.
