BY A STAFF REPORTER: 12th January is observed as National Youth Day every year. In 1984, the first Indian government announced to celebrate Swami Vivekananda's birthday i.e. January 12 as National Youth Day. Since then the day has been celebrated as National Youth Day across the country. The main aim of the Government of India was to create a better future for the country by inspiring the youth through their lives and the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda. It was considered to be a great way of developing the country as well as instilling eternal energy in the youth.
National Youth Day or Youth Day or Swami Vivekananda's birthday is celebrated every year in many centers of Ramakrishna Mutt, Ramakrishna Mission and their branches with great enthusiasm and joy as per Indian culture and tradition. A grand Mangal Aarti, devotional songs, meditation, religious discourses, Sandhya Aarti etc. are performed.
Also, in various schools, and colleges it is celebrated with parades, lectures on Swami Vivekananda, recitals, songs, conferences, essay competitions, seminars etc. by students. Several competitions are held not only in India but also outside the country to promote education, confidence among the youth etc. to improve the country.
