History of International Yoga Day

By A Staff Reporter- Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary Ayush, shed light on the preparations for International Yoga Day. He stated, "On 11 December 2014, the Prime Minister proposed in the UN that 21 June be celebrated as Yoga Day. The UN accepted it unanimously, and since then, India has been leading it for the last 10 years."

He emphasized the widespread nature of the event, mentioning, "Yoga Day is being organized on a large scale across the world. It is not only a celebration but also a concerted effort to bring about a behavioral change so that people adopt yoga in their lives and take the benefits of yoga."

Kotecha further explained the Common Yoga Protocol, saying, "All the yoga experts together made a 45-minute program. We call it the Common Yoga Protocol, and it is a protocol that if people do it every day in their life, then it will have a lot of health benefits. Its videos are available in 22 Indian languages, 6 UN languages, and in 9 other languages."
