Sheikh Hasina's fall a blot on India's foreign police policy?

BY A STAFF REPORTER: The fall of Sheikh Hasina is a complete failure of India foreign policy and diplomacy, feel most experts following the situation over a period of time. According to senior former diplomats, anti India and anti Hindu sentiments have been growing in Bangladesh over the last one year. Moreover Sheikh Hasina invested her trust and empowered personalities like Salman F Rehman, Mohammed Arafat, Junaid Ahmed Palak, Mozammel haque Babu, Nayeem Nizam, who are accused of looting the country and indulging in promoting self interest and progress. Most of these people were anti India, former diplomats who had dealt with them maintained although they showed that they are close confidantes of Sheikh Hasina.

Indian diplomats and officials in the Bangladesh and South Asian desk in the ministry of external affairs failed to see the writing on the wall and could not shape up damage control measures, the former diplomats said.

The Indian mission in Bangladesh also failed to gauge the mood of the people and decipher ground reality with an inexperienced Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma slipping in his duties, the former diplomats added. An unstable, hostile, restive Bangladesh will be extremely dangerous for India, experts claimed, stating that EAM Jaishankar has his desk to blame as there was enough time to take corrective measures.
