By A Staff Reporter: Bidhannagar police has introduced police clearance certificate (PCC) for toto, auto, e rickshaw and rickshaw pullers plying in their area. According to a senior police officer in know of the issue, the drivers and owners have been asked to fill up an online form containing details of them and their whereabouts along with telephone linked adhar card. “When the adhar card is linked to the telephone then it has to be genuine. We are aware that there are several fake adhar cards floating around,” he said.
Explaining the reason behind the move, the senior police officer said cops intends to have a database on details about the drivers, owners and operators of such transport vehicles so that they can clamp down on their involvement in crime. “The database will help us identify and track them if any offence is reported involving these operators,” he said. The drivers, operators and owners have been asked to report to police traffic guards in Bidhannagar police station area to fill up the forms and upload them. “Alternately they can also go to a cyber cafe and access the link and fill up the form,” the senior officer said. According to estimates there are several thousand auto, totos and e rickshaws plying in Bidhannagar police area and it will take some time to complete the process. The police got into the act after a toto driver allegedly raped and murdered a young school girl in New Town in the early hours of February 7. Cops initially faced difficulty as there was no data base of the accused person.
