Are bureaucrats and political leadership responsible for the floods in portions of the national capital? If a section of bureaucrats of the water commission and experts are to be believed that illegal construction is primarily responsible for the floods.

ANM News spoke to several persons in affected areas in Delhi as well as officials in the Delhi government and found out that the constructions are obstructing the flow of water. Experts suggested that due to excessive rain and release of water from the barrage by the Haryana government, water level has increased to 12 feet over the danger level.

The water has spilled over in both banks of the Yamuna river flooding portions of Delhi and the river runs through the national capital. The respective governments in Delhi including the municipal corporation allowed the constructions and did not take any steps. With huge number of people settling down, it is now difficult to remove them, a senior officer of the Delhi government told ANM News. The water logging in portions of Delhi near the banks of river Yamuna now has no avenue to flow back. Hence water is stagnant in these parts of Delhi.
