New Delhi: In a major step to support farmers and strengthen food security, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the government’s approval of a nutrient-based subsidy on phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers for the Kharif 2025 season.
Taking to social media, PM Modi stated, “In the interest of farmer brothers and sisters across the country, our government has today approved a nutrient-based subsidy on phosphatic and potassic fertilizers for the Kharif season-2025. This will not only ensure that fertilizers are available to the food providers at affordable rates, but also guarantee food security.”
The scheme aims to provide fertilizers at controlled prices, reducing the financial burden on farmers while ensuring adequate nutrient supply for crops. By subsidizing P&K fertilizers, the government intends to maintain agricultural productivity and stabilize food prices.
Experts believe this decision will play a crucial role in sustaining India’s agricultural output, especially during the critical Kharif season, when crops such as rice, maize, and pulses require sufficient nutrient supply. The initiative is also seen as a step toward reducing dependency on expensive imports and supporting domestic fertilizer manufacturers.
With agriculture being the backbone of India’s economy, the government has been consistently working on policies to enhance farmers’ welfare. This subsidy approval reaffirms its commitment to making essential inputs affordable and securing the nation’s food production.
