New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the Cabinet’s approval of the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, calling it a major step toward self-reliance and positioning India as a global hub for electronics production.

In a social media post, PM Modi stated, “A strong impetus to self-reliance and making India a hub for electronics component manufacturing! The Cabinet approval for the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme will attract investments and boost job creation. It will encourage innovation as well.”

The scheme is expected to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities in the electronics sector by attracting domestic and foreign investments. By providing incentives for component production, the initiative aims to reduce import dependence and strengthen the local supply chain, making India more competitive in the global electronics market.

Experts believe the scheme will generate significant employment opportunities, particularly in high-tech industries, while also fostering research and development in semiconductor and electronic component manufacturing. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” visions, ensuring that India becomes a key player in the global electronics supply chain.

With this move, the government seeks to build on previous successes in electronics manufacturing, such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has already attracted major investments from tech giants. The approval of the new scheme signals the government's commitment to strengthening India’s position in the global technology ecosystem
