BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant move, Bhawna Bajaj, a member of the fact-finding team who visited Sandeshkali, shared details about atrocities committed against women of Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
A member of NCPCR and Women's Rights Commission, Bhawna Bajaj met with 20 women aged from 28 to 70 years. She further revealed that 70-year-old women were weeping, and anxious about their daughters and daughter-in-laws. Bajaj met one victim without cameras to maintain confidentiality, her face was covered in bruises and how she hid with her four-year-old daughter during the night. Moreover, the maximum number of women arrested accused Shibuprasad Hazara as the culprit for the alleged atrocities.
She further alleged that women couldn't approach the police as police neglect them entirely.
A fact-finding team led by former Haryana Police IG Rajpal Singh visited Sandeshkhali to investigate the allegations. However, only six of them were permitted to proceed.
The Prime accused in the Sandeshkhali matter, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested on 29th February, Thursday. He was suspended for six years by the Trinamool Congress.
A village located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Sandeshkhali is witnessing significant clashes and violence following allegations of systematic sexual exploitations and land-grabbing committed by TMC leaders, Shahjahan Sheikh, Shibu Hazara and Uttam Sardar. Shahjahan Sheikh remained absconding since 5th January after an ED team was attacked by a large mob while conducting raids at Shahjahan's residence.
