West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a press conference in Kolkata, outlining significant safety measures and infrastructure improvements for medical colleges across the state. During a meeting that included principals of medical colleges, heads of departments (HODs), district magistrates (DM), superintendents of police (SP), and other officials, Banerjee emphasized the importance of enhancing security and facilities for students and staff.
"We have a detailed discussion over the 'Ratri Sathi' and security audit," Banerjee stated, referring to the initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of students during night hours. She revealed plans to develop an application that would facilitate communication throughout the entire state, further bolstering security measures.
In addition to the 'Ratri Sathi' program, Banerjee announced that essential facilities such as restrooms and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras would be constructed in medical colleges to improve the overall environment and safety. "The work regarding this has been started," she confirmed, indicating that the government is taking proactive steps to implement these changes promptly.
