Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Chief Advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, revealed that CM Banerjee has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing deep concern over the increasing number of rape cases across India. In her letter, Banerjee highlighted the shocking statistic that nearly 90 rapes occur daily across the country, as per available data. She noted that in many instances, these heinous crimes are coupled with murder, further shaking the confidence and conscience of society.

She emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive action to ensure the safety and security of women. She urged the Prime Minister to consider enacting stringent central legislation that would prescribe exemplary punishment for those involved in such heinous acts. Additionally, she proposed the establishment of fast-track special courts to expedite trials, suggesting that cases of this nature should be resolved within 15 days to deliver quick justice.
