Amta villages cut off as bridge gave away to gushing water, area flooded

BY A STAFF REPORTER
Thousands of people have been rendered homeless after water flooded their villages, damaged bridges and washed away roads in Amta and Dankuni area in Hooghly. Several villages in Amta have been cut off from the mainland after a wooden bridge was washed away in gushing water. Heavy rains for the last few days coupled with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) releasing water forced flooding in these areas, locals said.
