Cyclone 'Mocha' is moving fast, High alert on 12th May

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Andaman and Nicobar islands from May 8 to May 12. A low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal by May 8.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: The IMD has once again raised concerns about cyclone Mocha. Cyclone Mocha is likely to intensify further in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Andaman and Nicobar islands from May 8 to May 12. IMD's senior scientist Mrityunjay Mohapatra said, "A low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal by May 8. It is likely to intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal by May 9. It will intensify further into a cyclonic storm which will move almost northwards towards central Bay of Bengal. The Met office has already issued an alert for fishermen, small vessels, boats, trawlers and maritime activities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands region. Fishermen over southeast Bay of Bengal have been advised to return to safer places before May 7 and fishermen over central Bay before May 9."
