London: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing an event at the Indian High Commission in London, emphasized Kolkata’s deep-rooted historical significance and its modern-day prominence in various sectors.
"Our relations are very deep because, before Independence, Kolkata was the capital of India. Now, Kolkata is the cultural capital of India, an investment hub, a center for women's empowerment, an education hub, and more," Banerjee said.
She highlighted the city’s transformation into a thriving economic and educational center while retaining its rich cultural heritage. The Chief Minister's remarks come as part of her ongoing efforts to attract global investment and strengthen ties with international stakeholders.
Banerjee’s visit to London includes discussions with business leaders and diplomats, focusing on investment opportunities in West Bengal.
