Scrutiny Cyclone Hits Coast Alliance, Alerts Issued

Heavy rainfall is likely in the districts surrounding Chennai.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a thundershower warning for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It is also known that Cyclone Michang is going to hit the coastal region. 

The cyclone is expected to move northwestward and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal off the coast of South Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North Tamil Nadu by noon on 4 December. It will move almost parallel to the north and close to the south Andhra Pradesh coast and cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam on December 5 afternoon. It will have maximum wind speed of 80-90 kmph. An alert has been issued in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts till Monday evening. More than 20 cm of rainfall is likely in these places.
